Understanding your Newborn Baby
(based on Brazelton Centre’s Newborn Behaviour Observation system which is underpinned by 30 years of research and clinical work)

Getting to know more about what your baby is saying from birth to 3 months

My group workshops and one to one newborn behaviour observations are designed to help you understand the richness of the newborn’s behavioural repertoire, how they are developing in the very early months and what they need from you.

If you are looking to understand what your baby is telling you, what their behaviour means, and how you can bring this knowledge to practical everyday life of looking after your baby, then you are in the right place.
From the time they are born, babies are communicating with their parents.

For new parents, one of the biggest challenges is learning what their baby is saying.

Parents are often more confident once they are able to understand what their baby is telling them

The NBO gives you a very personalised view of your baby’s behaviour.

What is it? It's a set of behavioural observations that I do together with you to see how your baby reacts to the tasks and communicates what they think of it.

It is not a test and does not give you a diagnosis.
We will spend around 90 minutes together, at your home or online, looking into up to 18 different items to see where your baby's strengths are and where they might need extra support from you.

It focuses on what babies CAN do.

Who is it for? Parents with babies from birth to 3 months.

The NBO gives you:
  • Better understanding of your newborn’s behaviour and development.
  • It helps you understand what your baby is telling you and how they show you what they need.
  • It helps you feel more confident in your ability to meet your baby’s needs.
  • Helps you know what the best environment is to help your baby sleep better; how much or how little stimuli your baby likes; how your baby shows when they need a rest or a change in what you are doing; what is the best way to soothe your baby and what is the best way to play with your newborn...
